Iran has freed 85,000 prisoners amid the outbreak of coronavirus

As the country struggles to stop the spread of coronavirus, Iran has freed thousands of additional prisoners, including political prisoners, in an effort to ease pressure on its prison system

The total number of deaths in Iran from the new coronavirus reached 988 out of 16,169 infections, making it one of the worst national outbreaks outside China, where the new virus was discovered at the end of the first year.
