There are 546 new deaths in Italy's 21 MAECH center Lombardy region, as cities around the world are closed 




With the outbreak of infections in Italy, Spain and Germany, the number of deaths from the new coronavirus has risen to 5,000 in Europe.

According to data collected by Johns Hopkins University in the United States, more than 11,000 deaths occurred worldwide on Saturday. More than 277,000 people became infected and 88,000 recovered.

Italy announced 793 deaths on Thursday, the largest increase in the country's four-week epidemic for the second consecutive day after China's death. The total number of deaths in Italy has now reached 4,825. The death toll in Spain has risen to 1,300, and in Iran, the country's new year begins with an even more dramatic milestone.

The number of coronavirus cases rose from 102 to 785, the Irish Health Department said on Saturday.

As of Friday, three people had died of the disease.

Eritrea has confirmed its first coronavirus case, a passenger from Norway, the minister reported Saturday.

"The Ministry of Health has confirmed the first case of a coronavirus patient arriving from Norway to Asmara International Airport with Fly Dubai at 7:00 pm this evening," Yemen Meskel said on Twitter.

The 39-year-old is an Eritrean national, living permanently in Norway and receiving treatment.

The Federal Aviation Administration has suspended flights to New York City-area airports because of a coronavirus-related staffing problem at the regional regional traffic control center, but service resumed shortly thereafter.

In a warning posted online, the agency advised air traffic controllers to "stop all exits" to Kennedy, LaGuardia, Newark and other airports in the region. The order also affected Philadelphia International Airport.

18:30 GMT - French coronavirus death increases from 112 to 562
France recorded 112 coronavirus deaths per day, with a total of 562, according to the Ministry of Health.

The ministry said in a statement that 14,459 cases were confirmed.

Of the 6,172 people currently in the hospital, 1,525 said the condition was critical. Half of the serious cases are those under 60.
